San Marcos Lions Club
Since it was founded in 1941, the San Marcos Lions Club has served our community year-round by providing vision assistance to those in need, scholarships to our local students, and assisting local charities in the continuation of their programs.
Donation In Honor of Dr. Galvan
A few years ago the question was asked, “When did you become a Lion?” Not the date you were raised, but when did you become a Lion in your heart. Perhaps few of us were true Lions on the day we first donned our vest. However, Robert was a real Lion from the first day he joined the club in 1981. And he continued to show us what being a true Lion is about all the years he was with us. For that we can be grateful
A longtime educator and Professor Emeritus at Texas State University, a proud father and grandfather and a loving husband, Dr. Galvan was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship for his outstanding service, the highest award given by Lions Clubs International. He was always a valued member of the organization and served in a number of roles. In addition, our club funds an annual scholarship in his name for Texas State University students majoring or minoring in Spanish.
Certainly much more can be said about this man but I suppose this note is simply to say goodbye to our very special friend — a friend with the heart of a lion.
